Privacy policy
Short version
Memophant runs locally on your Mac. Your notes, wiki pages, design docs, and code stay in your git repository. We don't host them, we don't see them, and we don't train on them.
The only personal data we hold is the email address you give us (waitlist sign-up, support, or purchase) and the billing details our payment processor (Paddle) needs to bill you. That's it.
Who we are
Memophant is published by Alan Wizemann, LLC, a limited-liability company organized under the laws of the State of Delaware, USA (the “Licensor,” “we,” or “us”).
For privacy questions or data-subject requests, contact privacy@memophant.co.
What we collect
Email addresses on the waitlist
If you sign up for launch notifications, we add your email and an anonymous source tag (which page you signed up from) to a contacts list hosted by Resend. We also receive an internal notification email for each signup. We use the address only to email you when Memophant ships and to handle any reply you send us.
Customer + billing information (via Paddle)
When you buy Memophant, you check out through Paddle, who acts as the Merchant of Record. Paddle collects and processes the data required to bill you, handle tax/VAT, and issue receipts (name, email, billing address, payment method). Paddle is the data controller for that transaction; we receive only what we need to fulfill the license (your email, country, order ID, and the license key Paddle issues you).
Anonymous site analytics
memophant.co does not currently run any analytics or behavior-tracking scripts. If we add cookieless aggregate analytics in the future, we'll update this page and the sub-processor list before turning them on.
App telemetry
The Memophant macOS app is offline-capable and does not phone home with usage data by default. If you opt in to crash reports inside the app, anonymized crash traces are sent to us so we can fix bugs. AI features (Distill, Run with Claude, etc.) call Anthropic's API directly from your machine using a key you provide; we never see those prompts or responses.
Support correspondence
If you email us at hello@ or support@memophant.co, we keep the thread for as long as needed to resolve the issue and for a reasonable record afterwards. We don't use support email content for marketing.
How we use it
We use the data we collect only for the purposes we collected it:
- To email you when Memophant ships (waitlist).
- To deliver, license, and update the app you bought (purchase).
- To process refunds within the 14-day window.
- To respond to support requests and account-related questions.
- To debug crashes, if you opted in to crash reporting in-app.
- To improve site performance via aggregate, cookie-less analytics.
We don't sell your data, rent it, or use it to train AI models.
Sub-processors
We use a small set of third-party services to run Memophant and the memophant.co site. Each is bound by its own privacy terms; we keep this list current.
| Processor | Purpose | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Paddle | Payments, tax, billing as Merchant of Record | Name, email, billing address, payment method, order |
| Resend | Waitlist email + transactional email | Email address, source tag, message contents |
| Cloudflare | DNS, edge hosting + TLS for memophant.co (Cloudflare Workers) | Aggregate request metadata; no cookies or visitor identifiers |
| Anthropic | In-app AI features (Distill, Consolidate, Run with Claude) | Prompts you send via your own API key; we don't relay or store these |
| GitHub | Optional integrations the app uses via the gh CLI you install | GitHub credentials you've authenticated with the gh CLI; we never store or transmit them |
International transfers
Our sub-processors operate primarily in the United States and the European Union. Where personal data is transferred outside your country (for example, an EU customer's billing data being processed by Paddle's US infrastructure), the transfer is covered by the recipient's Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), or similar laws.
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correctdata that's wrong.
- Delete your data (subject to legal record-keeping obligations).
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Object to processing or withdraw consent at any time.
Email privacy@memophant.co to exercise any of these. For Paddle-held billing data, see Paddle's privacy notice and contact us if you need help.
Retention
We keep data for as long as it's reasonably needed:
- Waitlist emails: until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
- Purchase records: for the duration of the license + as required by tax law (typically 7 years).
- Support correspondence: up to 3 years from last contact.
- Crash reports (opt-in): up to 12 months.
Children
Memophant is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has provided us data, email privacy@memophant.co and we'll delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we'll update the date at the top of the page and, where reasonable, email people on the waitlist or with active licenses.
